Coaly Design is under contract with The Lundy Group, Inc., to develop streetscape plans and site plans for the 50 acre Spring Branch Medical Park. Construction will begin for the first medical office building on the campus in the spring of 2011.

Town of Wake Forest Design Projects

From 2007-2009, Coaly Design was under contract with the Town of Wake Forest, North Carolina, for landscape architectural services. The contract included evaluating existing features in the Town and recommending improvements. Projects designed to date include signage and landscape improvements at the intersection of US 1 (Capital Boulevard) and South Main Street; recommending improvements to the Susie Powell Garden located downtown; and streetscape improvements in Wake Forest’s Historic District along North Main Street. The streetscape improvements along North Main Street were installed in February of 2009.

St. Monica’s Teen Center

Coaly Design was the landscape architect responsible for the site redevelopment for the St. Monica’s Teen Center in downtown Raleigh. The Teen Center is a City of Raleigh Community Development Department project which consisted of a 4,675 sf renovation of the former St. Monica’s Catholic Church. The church was originally constructed in the 1930s as a Catholic church for the neighborhood’s African American population.

Coaly Design was contracted with the PineCrest developers to design and produce construction drawings for a 50 lot subdivision in Lumberton, NC. Coaly Design was also responsible for the construction administration for the project. Construction was completed in the fall of 2010.

A.L. Harris Estates Wetland Greenway

Henderson, NC

Coaly Design has contracted with the Black Family Land Trust, the Conservation Fund, and Gateway Community Development Corporation to design a greenway for the A.L. Harris Estates conservation subdivision in Henderson, North Carolina. The greenway will showcase the wetland’s biological diversity, including two boardwalk crossings of the wetland and educational activities for local schools.

Coaly Design has partnered with the Earthwise Company to design and develop a Cohousing community in Raleigh, North Carolina. Cohousing communities are designed and function with traditional neighborhood values. They blend full private homes with common facilities such as recreation rooms, kitchens, and gardens. There will be more about this exciting project as it continues to develop.

Balsawood
Conservation Based Affordable Housing

Spring Lake, NC

Coaly Design has begun work on an affordable housing conservation subdivision in Spring Lake, North Carolina, with the Kingdom Community Development Corporation. The conservation subdivision will be designed with sustainable principals, clustering the home sites to provide the residents with common, useable, open space.
Two design charrettes were held in late 2009, with the community of Spring Lake to facilitate the site planning process. The project has received Town Board approval and is currently in the design development phase.

In the spring of 1999, while under the employ of OBS Landscape Architects, Kimberly was the lead designer for a master plan of WRAL’s campus along Western Boulevard in Raleigh.
The focus of the master plan was the design of a new entrance road and entrance courtyard for the studio. The redesign led to the creation of the Transmission and Terrace Gardens. The Transmission Garden’s focal point is a reincarnation of WRAL’s famous fountain. The fountain is the point at which bands of pavers radiate outward representing analog television signal patterns.
